In the
Telugu states, there was a famous story taught to every child in its childhood
by its mothers as her deliberate activity at the time of food feeding of the
child. It is none other than STORY OF SEVEN FISH. In almost everybody’s life,
it would be the debut fiction. Now such activity and story narration are
antediluvian due to introduction of virtual screen au fait.
The same
story is delineated hereby for a fresher.
Once upon
a time there was a king and he had seven sons. One day all the seven princes
went to fish hunting and returned with seven fish. All the seven fish were kept
under sunlight for dry up. Later, one of them was rotten due to inadequate
drying. All the 7 princes made an inquiry into this lapse. At first, the
spoiled fish replied the flaw caused with obstruction of the shadow of a grass
heap. In its turn, the grass heap replied in the inquiry that the lapse was
attributable to a cow which did not consume it. Again the cow complained the
cow-shepherd did not offer her to eat the grass heap. Again the cow-shepherd
answered he could not resume his daily duties as his food was not given timely
by the female servent concerned. The female servent replied in her turn in the
inquiry that the kid did not stop crying and thus she was engaged in the
unexpected work of pacifying the kid. The kid in his turn replied an ant bit
one of his hands mercilessly. In the end, the ant explained its reason in the
inquiry that it would not spare anyone if anyone had disturbed its mound.
The story
ends here. The denouement of story with a little bit dramatization by the
mother gives a joyful kick to the child and thus its mood is drawn to food
eating. The same story is repeated at the request of the child again and again
till the food in the bowl or plate is exhausted. The same story, the same
twist, the same joyfulness and the food eating is a continuous process without
any change or boring in the entire duration of childhood. Nobody thinks beyond
of it.
Now I
would like to touch some queer dimensions of the story which are not unlit so
far.
1) Out of
seven fish, only one was unfit for food purpose. It means about 86% (6 out of
7) of haunting fish was edible food. But there was no satisfaction, happiness
about the highest rate of success of food preservation. The entire story
pivoted over lamentation of spoiled fish. The conclusion is the man often
concentrates more on the unhaving things, even if is trifle, rather than on
having abundance for him.
2) The
first 6 fish dried up themselves sincerely without any snag or trouble. They
became palatable food to others. But their greatness was not praised anywhere
in the story. Hence the morale is that the human being is least bothered to the
goodness of others and ignores easily.
3) There
are many reasons not to dry up the last fish. In reality also, people do not
come front to do good but gives hand to hand to spoil others.
4) The
child, who hears the story, gets more excitement at the last punch of the
story, i.e., ant biting, with the dramatisation of its mother. In fact, the
child demands repetition of the story from the mouth of its mother to have the
same kick of the last punch again and again. Its consequence is that we have so
many number of TV serials with never ending family harassments, family
betrayals and family intrigues in which we suck immense joy.
5) One can
observe the chain reaction of lame excuses in the majority part of the story.
In reality also, almost everyone gets ready to plea instantly.
6) I too,
since hailed from the same surface, do not deduce any optimistic conclusion
from the story.
